Immigration
United States:
The American industrial revolution began in 1760 and brought many diverse cultures and new ways of creating everyday commodities. The American industrial revolution led to the immigration of people from different countries. Jobs were needed as factories started to spring up all over the North East. Many other countries had their own issues, and citizens were willing to take the perilous, and risky journey to the United States to start a new life. Also, in the south many immigrants went to work on farms , and other small businesses. In some circumstances immigration was not used to find work, or to escape problems of another country. Slaves from Africa were forced to immigrate to work on plantations more noticeably in the South but in the North too. Immigration during the industrial revolution in American brought diverse cultures to America, but also brought slavery and war too. "What makes someone American isn't just blood or birth but allegiance to our founding principles and faith in the idea that anyone--from anywhere-- can write the next chapter of our story." ~ President Barack Obama |
Germany:
The German industrial revolution started in 1834 with the production of textiles, which caused immigrants to come to Germany in search of employment. But there were problems in Germany that caused immigration to the United States when the German industrial revolution began, many people began to immigrate to America. The Nazi regime had many laws and beliefs, which was a growing concern for many citizens. They came to America because they couldn’t be affected by the Nazi laws in the United States. World War II and the industrial revolution displaced a lot of people in Germany because of the ideas fascism and anti semitism being brought up. Key Points:
The industrial revolution in Germany displaced many people and caused widespread poverty Many ideas of idealism and anti semitism began to become more and more involved in politics. Germans first started to immigrate at notably high levels when the industrial revolution began They were mostly immigrating to America, since Antisemitism was a growing concern to many citizens in Germany. |
Comparison:
Both Industrial Revolutions differ in many ways and immigration is one of the most prominent. During America’s industrial revolution, a large amount of people immigrated to America, while in Germany a lot of people emigrated out of the country. This is surprising since an Industrial Revolution typically means it would be a great time to be alive, but for the Germans, it turned out to be the opposite. Because of WW2, a great amount of Germans left Germany. However, both revolutions started out very similarly. The first industries to come about in the early days of both Industrial revolutions, were textiles and steel. With these industries came the need for workers, and immigrants would work for less. Because of these advancements, people immigrated both to and from the US and Germany, however with Germany, the events of WW2 eventually drove people away. |
